Jay Lichtmann has been a member of the Hartford Symphony Orchestra since the fall of 1982. He served the first 25 years of his tenure with the HSO in the Principal trumpet chair but; in the time honored orchestral tradition of planned obsolescence, he has voluntarily stepped down to the 2nd/Assistant Principal spot.
During the summer season Jay performs with the New Hampshire Music Festival Orchestra and goofs-off hiking, biking and swimming in this wonderland of the north. He has been a featured soloist with the orchestra twice; in 1992 and 2000.
As an adjunct professor at the University of Hartford’s Hartt School, Jay expends a tremendous amount of energy trying to get his students (or anyone else, for that matter) to listen to him.
Graphic design is an interest that Jay has been pursuing as of late with hopes of working his way into this field professionally. When he does his trumpet will be put in the case permanently, so if you want to hear him play, better do it soon.
Jay lives in Avon, Connecticut with his long-suffering wife Susan and his pain-in-the-ass French bulldog: Lumpy.
